(PROVIDENCE, RI – December, 2011) – More than 725 people were in attendance at the first-ever CharterCARE Health Partners Gala, which raised more than $350,000 to benefit elder care programs at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, as well as at Roger Williams Medical Center and Elmhurst Extended Care. The gala was held on October 29, 2011 at Twin River Events Center and was chaired by Edwin Santos, chairman of the CharterCARE board of trustees, and his wife Paula. The evening included live and silent auctions, as well as great food, music and dancing.
CharterCARE is home to the state’s most comprehensive geriatric continuum of care. From an award-winning nursing home to inpatient hospital units dedicated to elder care, CharterCARE is known for providing comprehensive and innovative services to older patients. Both CharterCARE hospitals -- Fatima Hospital and Roger Williams -- are involved in the NICHE program, which is specifically designed to improve elder care in the hospital setting. Elmhurst Extended Care, the nursing home affiliate of CharterCARE, is an Eden Alternative site recognized as a leader in the delivery of elder-centered care. Both hospitals also have geriatric-psychiatry units and CharterCARE has a leading home health agency servicing older adults.
“On behalf of the thousands of patients we are privileged to care for, I want to say thank you to everyone who supported this successful event,” said Kenneth H. Belcher, President and CEO, CharterCARE Health Partners. “The generosity of our sponsors and those in attendance will allow us to enhance the great elder care that is a hallmark of CharterCARE Health Partners and its affiliates.”
CharterCARE Health Partners is the corporate parent of Roger Williams Medical Center and St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island. It operates a total of 579 licensed hospital beds, employs approximately 3,200 employees and has annual operating revenues of approximately $330 million.
