Free Diabetes Fair taking place at St. Joseph Health Center on November 6
All individuals living with diabetes – or those who simply want to learn more about the disease – are invited to the 6th Annual Diabetes Fair on Thursday, November 6, 2014. The fair starts at 9 a.m. and takes place at St. Joseph Health Center, 21 Peace Street in Providence.
The fair is hosted by the Diabetes Excellence Team at Fatima Hospital and St. Joseph Health Center. The program featured talks from endocrinologist Roberto Ortiz, MD, and a representative from the American Diabetes Association. There will be free screenings available for blood glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, and mood and memory. Health professionals will also be available to talk about a wide range of topics including nutrition, dental health, pharmacy, stroke center, and vascular health. Free flu vaccinations will also be available.
The Diabetes Fair is sponsored by NovoNordisk, Lily, and American Diabetes Association. Light refreshments will be served.
Fatima is recognized for excellence in the delivery of diabetes care and education. In 2012, Fatima became the first hospital in New England certified by the Joint Commission for advanced inpatient diabetes care. That recognition is considered the seal of approval for a program. Last year, Fatima became one of only 11 hospitals across the country chosen to participate in a unique national program to improve diabetes care.
