ST. JOSEPH HEALTH SERVICES HONORS
DOCTOR
Dr. Allan DiSimone, of Johnston, was
recently honored for his more than 48 years of distinguished
service to St. Joseph Health Services of Rhode Island,
including Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and St. Joseph
Hospital for Specialty Care. In addition to his private
surgical practice, DiSimone served in a number of Hospital
positions during his career, including Chairman of the
Department of Surgery for 24 years, president of the
Medical Staff Association, a member of the Board of
Trustees, and medical director of both the Wound Care
Center and the Alice Viola Breast Care Center. He also
chaired or served on virtually every Hospital governance
committee.
A member of the surgical team to perform
the first open heart procedure in Rhode Island, at St.
Joseph Hospital, DiSimone went on to complete advanced
training for a variety of surgical techniques at institutions
like the Lahey Clinic, Yale University School of Medicine
and Beth Israel Hospital. He was also the recipient
of the RI Department of Health's Outstanding Achievement
Award for Breast Care and the Inspiration in Medicine
Award from the RI Breast Cancer Coalition
