FATIMA HOSPITAL OFFERS NEW RELIEF FOR KIDNEY STONES
Fatima Hospital is now offering patients access to
the most advanced treatment for kidney and ureteral
stones. The hospital has recently acquired the Storz
SLX-F2 Lithotripter, a state of the art diagnostic and
therapeutic system. It is the only equipment of its
kind in Rhode Island and southeastern New England.
Available on an outpatient basis, this technology works
in less than half the time of other devices. It requires
less anesthesiology and often results in minimal side
effects, less discomfort and a faster recovery period.
Lithotripsy is a non-invasive procedure using shock
wave pressure pulses for breaking up kidney stones into
smaller pieces so they can pass easily through the ureters
or the cystic duct.
"This new modality has significant benefits to
physicians and patients including higher success rates
when it comes to treating stones," said Dr. Vincent
Zizza, a member of the hospital's division of urology.
"I'm impressed with the equipment's superior visibility
and stone identification which means safer and more
efficient patient outcomes." He added that his
patients have a high level of satisfaction with Fatima's
extensive lithotripsy service.
