Diabetes Support Group

Diabetes Outpatient Education

Diabetes is an EPIDEMIC! Recognizing that informed individuals are better able to manage this very complex disease, the Diabetes Management Center at Fatima Hospital is offering 2-hour classes that will meet weekly for a total of five weeks.

During this 5-week session, you will learn about such topics as nutrition, medication, exercise, blood sugar monitoring, blood glucose goals, managing illness, coping strategies, the latest research and much more! You will meet and gain the support from others who share the diagnosis of diabetes. You will learn that you are not alone and leave with strategies for success!

This is an accredited program, recognized by both the American Diabetes Association and RI Department of Health.

The faculty is comprised of a dynamic team of nurses, pharmacists and registered dietitians, who are all certified diabetes educators, committed to empowering you with the knowledge you need to succeed!


Class size will be limited to 20 participants, so call early to reserve your place.

MAY 16 . . . 6 - 7:30 PM
"Eye Disease as it relates to Diabetes"

Dr. Peter DeBlasio

Dr. DeBlasio will be discussing how diabetes affects the health of your eyes; explain routine testing that should be done for early detection of any changes; preventative measures to minimize your risk for diabetes associated eye disorders; and typical treatments for eye diseases associated with diabetes

PLEASE NOTE: The May 16th support group will meet in the
Ambulatory Care Center (next to the Patient Registration entrance)

SPECIAL EVENT on June 20th

Guided SUPERMARKET TOUR for people with Diabetes
(co-sponsored by Our Lady of Fatima Hospital and Dave's Marketplace)

Tour will begin prompltly at 6pm - 7:30pm
One hour walk through the supermarket accompanied by a team of
RI Certified Diabetes Educators from Fatima Hospital,
led by Registered Dietitian, discussing . . .
Label reading; what helps to determine whether a food is healthy vs. unhealthy (considering sodium, fat, carbohydrate content); better alternatives;
and tips for successful grocery shopping.

Ligh refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the program
for those that attend.

There is no fee for this program, however space is limited,
