If you have trouble falling asleep, staying asleep or remaining awake during the day, you may have a sleep disorder. Our Sleep Lab staff is among the area’s most experienced in diagnosing a sleep disorder and working with your physician to put you on the road to a good night’s sleep.

Even better, our expansion means shorter waits for an appointment, usually within two weeks. Sleep Lab patients spend a night in a comfortable bed with full or queen size mattresses with a memory foam comfort mattress cover. Each of our rooms also offers a private bathrooms And, your doctor will have our study results within 72 hours.

So when your doctor recommends a sleep study, ask him or her to refer you to the Sleep Disorders Lab at Fatima Hospital. Between yawns, that is.

What is the Sleep Disorders Lab?

The Sleep Disorders Lab is a medical facility dedicated to diagnosing and treating patients with sleep-related disorders. These conditions include difficulties falling asleep, staying asleep or remaining awake during the day. The most serious symptoms of sleep disorders are daytime sleepiness, excessive use of sleeping pills, nighttime chest pains, morning headaches, heavy snoring and breathing irregularities during sleep. The Lab's services are provided by professionals experienced in sleep-related disorders and sleep-exacerbating diseases. Specialty consultants with certification in neurology, pulmonary medicine, surgery, psychiatry and psychology are always available.

How is the Sleep Study Performed?

When your doctor orders the study, they will contact the Sleep Disorders Lab at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. We will set up an initial appointment for you to meet with our Sleep Lab therapist. During this visit you will provide a brief personal history and physical, and complete a questionnaire. We will complete all paperwork necessary for the medical record and billing ­ you will be given a tour of the lab and be scheduled to come back for the sleep study. The study will be done between 8:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in the Sleep Lab. When you wake up the next day, the therapist will remove the equipment and you may go home or to work, The test room is equipped with a private bathroom and shower.

What can be done to help me if I have a sleeping disorder?

If you are diagnosed with a sleeping disorder, the physician reading the sleep study will make recommendations to your physician based on the test results. They can include:

  • Weight loss
  • CPAP ­ continuous positive airway pressure
  • Medications
  • Surgery
  • Neurological follow-up
  • Psychiatry follow-up
  • Simple sleep pattern changes
  • Use of adjunct requirement such as chin straps or horseshoe pillows and monitors.

How Much Does a Sleep Study Cost?

The total cost of a sleep study will vary depending on the type of study performed. Most insurance plans cover the charges for this test. If you aren't sure if your insurance will cover this test, contact them directly or call (401) 456-3972, and we will check for you.
